Grian and granddaughter Morgan Hi.  Grian here.  Here’s the (very) short version of my life:

I’m a former pre-school teacher and children’s librarian. I now write teaching materials for various educational publishers as well as fiction and non-fiction for and about children.  In the past, I wrote under my legal name “Patricia McFadden,” but decided to use my real name from here on out.

So far, I’ve written eleven books for teachers and children, as well as numerous children’s plays, stories and articles, some of which appeared in such publications as Children’s Digest , Turtle Magazine , Highlights for Children, Sidewalks Magazine, Mountain Parent and The Healthy Planet .  I adapted my early chapter book, Dragon Dilemma , into a children’s play which has been performed in various Colorado venues. The manuscript for my middle grade novel, Turtle Island, won an award in the Paul Gillette Memorial Writing Contest, and my story A Light for Lena won a Highlights for Children Editor’s Choice Award.

I write at my home in a small town in the Colorado Rockies, occasionally taking a quick trip to Boulder for sushi.

I love doing school visits and helping others–especially kids–discover their inner writer.  I’m also available to speak at bookstores, libraries and conferences. Please contact me here for more information or to schedule an appearance
