This two-week long program for grades 4 through 6 covers all the basics of good writing and addresses the 4-6th grade benchmarks of the Colorado State Elementary Writing Process Continuum.
I work intensively with students in up to three classes, guiding them step-by-step through both sides of the creative writing process:
Right Wing Skills:
Parts of Speech
Punctuation
Spelling
Sentence Structure
Paragraphs
Left Wing Skills:
Generating Ideas
Author Purpose
Plotting
Character
Setting
By the end of the residency, students have a basic understanding of both “wings” of creative writing and have completed an individual writing project to demonstrate their skill mastery.
I employ enjoyable exercises and interactive activities to inspire students to new writing heights.
